Yahoo Immersive - Election Night 2020

The Experience

Election Night 2020. November 13-16, 2020, Yahoo News provided three AR maps election voting.

We visualized:

2020 early voting compared to 2016 early voting.
2020 early voting compared to 2016 total voting.
The counted 2020 vote compared to 2016 totals.

(States that turned green exceeded their 2016 turnout)

Building the Experience

Throughout election night and the following two days, geometry and textures for each state were manually updated to reflect counted totals state by state.

However, later experiences could've automated this process using Pegasus and Composer CMS.

Delivering the Interactive Experience

The interactivity was constructed using Immersive Composer. It was delivered via the WebXR platform to Yahoo! News.

Note about the live experience

As of January 2025, Yahoo has shutdown the XR servers. Live experiences are thus no longer available.

Technical Product Management

Provided developer support for the experience as a Product Manager for Immersive Composer and helped write the scripts necessary to get this experience working.
Helped develop the feature sets necessary to support this experience, working closely with the XR content team.
Co-developed the SDK powering the experience.
